  1. To assess the effectiveness of the current social studies curriculum in Junior Secondary Schools.
  2. To identify the challenges faced by teachers in implementing the social studies curriculum in Junior Secondary Schools.
  3. To evaluate the level of students’ understanding and engagement with the social studies curriculum in Junior Secondary Schools.
  4. To examine the resources available for the implementation of the social studies curriculum in Junior Secondary Schools.
  • Research Questions

The research questions are stated below:

  1. How effective is the current social studies curriculum in Junior Secondary Schools?
  2. What are the challenges faced by teachers in implementing the social studies curriculum in Junior Secondary Schools?
  3. What is the level of students’ understanding and engagement with the social studies curriculum in Junior Secondary Schools?
  4. What resources are available for the implementation of the social studies curriculum in Junior Secondary Schools?

The hypothetical statement of the study is buttressed below:

HO: The implementation of social studies curriculum has no significant impact on the students in Secondary School.

H1: The implementation of social studies curriculum has significant impact on the students in Secondary School

  • Significance of the Study

The significance of evaluating the implementation of the social studies curriculum in secondary schools in Abia State is multi-faceted. Firstly, it provides an opportunity to assess the effectiveness of the current curriculum in achieving its intended outcomes.   • Operational Definition of Terms

 Implementation: This refers to the process of putting a plan, decision, or strategy into effect. In an educational context, implementation could refer to the process of introducing and applying a new curriculum or teaching method in a school or classroom.

 Social Studies: This is a field of study that focuses on human society and social relationships. It often includes various disciplines such as history, geography, political science, economics, and sociology. In schools, social studies education aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become informed and active citizens.

 Curriculum: This is a planned set of courses or subjects that will be taught in a school, college, or university. A curriculum often includes the learning objectives, content, teaching methods, and assessment methods for each subject or course.

Secondary School: This is a school for students who have completed their primary education. In many countries, secondary school is for students aged 12 to 18 and includes middle school (or junior high school) and high school.
