THE EFFECT OF EXERCISE ON OBESSED PEOPLE IN NIGERIA (A CASE STUDY OF KWARA STATE)

ABSTRACT

The main purpose of this research was to find out the Effect of exercise on people who are obese: A study of the people in Ilorin south Local Government in Kwara State. The population for the study were on people residing in Ilorin south Local Government in which four (4) areas were selected to be used. These are Challenge, Post-office, Tanke and Unity. A simple random sampling technique was used to sample that respondents and a total of two hundred (200) respondents were used. A researcher designed questionnaire was used and it was validated by two professionals from the University of Ilorin. The reliability of the questionnaire was tested using test-retest method. A high semblance was observed between the two sets of administrations making which helped to adjudge the questionnaire reliable. The type of statistical analysis was the simple percentage. The findings of the study revealed that subjects were agreed that excessive caloric consumption without physical activity lead to obesity. It was also revealed that obesity is common in people that lack exercise, this consequently affects longevity. It was further established through this research work that many people have simultaneously increased carbohydrate and caloric intake and decreased their level of activity. The result of the analysis also proved that excess fat could accumulate to the extent that it may have an adverse effect on health leading to reduced life expectancy and or increase health problems.
